Following the success of MIA, the Italian directors and producers of the projects selected at New Cinema Network and Make it with Italy, came together at the Rai Movie Studio. Sharing their experiences of the co-production market everyone was in agreement as to the importance of having participated in the first edition of MIA. Each of their projects, which impressed the selection committee for their high quality and energy, confirmed that cinema still has the ability to move, surprise and to make people think. Special attention was given to the Eurimages Co-production Development Award winner Just Like My Son by Costanza Quatriglio, produced by Andrea Paris, as well as the recipients of the first-ever MIA awards: Look Up (by Fulvio Risuleo, produced by Donatello della Pepa), and My Body will Bury You (by Giovanni La Pàrola, produced by Olivia Musini). The event was also attended by Costanza Coldagelli, producer of Goddess of Calm Seas and Daniele Mazzocca, producer of Absolute Palate. Part of the Make it with Italy section, the project Les Filles du Temps was presented by its director Valerio Mieli and the project’s Italian co-producer Andrea Stucovitz. NCN coordinator Alexia De Vito said of the market: “NCN is very happy to have contributed to the quality and variety on offer at MIA, presenting a diverse selection with a strong Italian presence. The fact that the prestigious Eurimages Co-production Development Award went, for the first time in the award’s history, to an Italian project, is a wonderful sign of the internationalization at the heart of both NCN and MIA.”
Al Williams, coordinator of Make it with Italy said “We were delighted to present, in this first edition of Make it with Italy, two projects with Italian co-producers already attached: Les Filles du Temps, by the Italian director Valerio Mieli and Single Mother by the Iranian filmmaker Hana Makhmalbaf. These two projects, along with the other 5 in the section, really demonstrated the growing interest that the international industry has in collaborating with Italy.”
