After being on Rai Tre and La7, Roberto Saviano lands on Discovery (Nove, Focus, Eurosport, Realtime, DMax) with a new TV programme. From 4 October, the Neapolitan writer will be on Nove with “Kings of Crime”, a factual series (investigative-documentary) about Mafia and drug trafficking. A whole new genre in Italy which goes beyond entertainment, examines in depth and has an almost scientific approach to the topics covered. With this big news of the programme schedule of Discovery Italia, Saviano tells the stories of the bosses to explain crime in TV.
The programme, telling stories of bloodshed and violence, will air also in Latin America, Portugal, France and Germany. In Italy, the first episode will be focused on Italian boss of the Camorra Paolo Di Lauro (the one to whom Saviano took inspiration for Don Pietro Savastano in Gomorrah), with an interview to repentant Maurizio Prestieri. For the following week, the series will analyse El Chapo, the infamous Mexican drug trafficker. On the 18th, the programme will focus on Antonio Pelle, the boss of the Calabrian ‘Ndràngheta.
Every biography will be told through several documents and enriched with court records, original wiretaps and interviews.
“Our aim – as Saviano states at the press conference presenting the TV schedules of Discovery in Milan – is to bring the youth closer to these topics, which have been overlooked by the national debate, which only deals with immigration. They are the same youth who watches series such as Gomorrah and may be interested in understanding the mechanisms behind the underworld. That’s why we chose a university classroom to tell the story, so as to make it almost scientific”.
