This year again, the long-awaited event awarding the world of television has come. The Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles will host the 69th edition of the Emmy Awards on September 17, 2017. The event will be hosted by Stephen Colbert and broadcasted on live TV by American broadcaster CBS. During the ceremony, the best shows of last year will be awarded (broadcasted in the U.S.A. from 1 June 2016 to 31 May 2017), and, at the same time, the next season will be presented. The titles competing for the sought-after prizes in this edition are: Westworld, Better Call Saul (the Breaking Bad spin-off series), The Crown, Stranger Things, The Handmaid’s Tale, Atlanta and House of Cards.
The seventh season of Game of Thrones kept its fans on their toes from July to August, and, at the same time, Netflix subscribers watched the first season of The Defenders and the third season of Narcos.
The Duffer Brothers will come back in October with the second season of their horror TV series, Stranger Things. The show that honours the ‘80s and Stephen King’s world fits into a genre featuring the writer and his “strange” universe and touches on cinema and television once again: in the remake of It, Canadian actor Finn Wolfhard plays both Netflix series’ Mike Wheeler and Andy Muschietti movie’s Richie Tozier. Netflix then will produce a movie based on another King’s novel, Gerald’s Game.
For 2018, instead, there are rumours of a series entirely dedicated to The Dark Tower.
HBO, for its part, tells the rise of the porn industry, which has established among mafia, drugs and prostitution in New York in the ‘70s and ‘80s. The screenplay is written by David Simon and George Pelecanos (The Wire). Viewers are waiting for the eight season of The Walking Dead and the return of Jane Campion with the second season of Top of the Lake, starring Nicole Kidman, who will also come back as a producer after Big Little Lies.
The new season of Prison Break will be broadcasted in Italy every Monday on Fox. We’re also waiting for the big return of Will & Grace, after eleven years from the farewell to the small screen.
