The Discovery business is extended, continuing with the launch of new channels. A positive trend that until today has brought well 10% of share in the 24 hours.
Discovery Italia launches Motor Trend that will occupy Channel 56, taking the place of Focus that Mediaset could re-propose in a couple of months of fresh restyling. But this is just one of the new channels that have enriched the offer of TV in the clear in Italy. Only Discovery in recent years had promoted Nove (October 2016) and Food network (May 2017). In the Italian television panoramana discovery is not the only one to increase its channels, in fact, we have already thought of Viacom, Sony, Sky, De Agostini and Mediaset.
Just Mediaset decided to revive its business in free TV, setting aside the pay sector. New challenges that could lead to a complete reorganization of Italian contents and schedules. This increase in competition has also led to greater recourse to original productions. We must however consider how this enrichment of the offer can affect with a dispersion of the audience that has many more channels to choose from. In this way the “battle” is no longer between the individual channels but between the different television groups in the field.
