The Nastri d’Argento Awards were held in the Ancient theatre of Taormina, southern Italy. This year the prizes surpassed expectations: triumph of Dogman, followed by Loro and Like a Cat on a Highway.
Matteo Garrone’s Dogman went home with eight Nastri d’Argento: Best Film, Director, Producer, Scenography, Best Live Sound, Editing (ex aequo with Call Me by Your Name, by Luca Guadagnino), Best Casting Director and Best Leading Actor to Marcello Fonte and Edoardo Pesce.
Paolo Sorrentino’s Loro, instead, collected the Best Screenplay, Best Leading Actress (to Elena Sofia Ricci), and Best Supporting Actor and Actress (to Kasia Smutniak and Riccardo Scamarcio). The Nastro d’Argento for Best Comedy of the Year went to Like a Cat on a Highway by Riccardo Milani. The actors Paola Cortellesi and Antonio Albanese were also awarded.
Love and Bullets received the prize for Best Original Song (‘Bang Bang’, by Serena Rossi) and for Best Soundtrack, composed by Pivio and Aldo De Scalzi. A Ciambra conquered the Nastro for Best Costume Design and Ferzan Özpetek’s Napoli Velata (Naples in Veils) won for Best Photography, while Luciano Ligabue got the prize for Best Subject with Made in Italy. The Best Debut Film went to Boys Cry by Fabio and Damiano D’Innocenzo.
But the Nastri d’Argento did not end there. Massimo Ghini also won the Special Award for his first 40 years of Career, while Claudia Gerini got the Nino Manfredi Award, and Edoardo Leo was awarded for Best Character of the Year. The Nastro d’Argento to the Career was instead given in Rome to Gigi Proietti.
