Insatiable, the new dark comedy by Netflix, overwhelmed by controversy even before the start: 100 thousand signatures to stop the broadcasting.
Insatiable instigates bullying and should not go on the air. This was the reaction of many users after the trailer’s publication for the new TV series signed Netflix.
Insatiable tells the story of Patty, an American teenager bullied because of her obesity; the girl, after an accident that causes her the jaw’s fracture and that keeps her from eating as before, returns to school skinny after the summer and becomes ‘popular’ among her classmates.
The petition started with the London artist and activist Forence Given, who asked to delete Insatiable through the change.org website. The series is accused of fat-shaming and objectifying the female body, with the risk of perpetuating among younger girls the idea that to be socially acceptable they must be thin and thus of causing eating disorders.
The first to respond to the controversy were two Insatiable‘s leading actresses, Debby Ryan and Alyssa Milano. The two girls have explained on their socials that they agreed to play the series because it has the merit of tackling the damages of fat-shaming.
Meanwhile Netflix has not yet commented on the petition and announced the release of the first episode on August 10, 2018.
