Netflix announces plans to acquire Scanline VFX, one of the world’s most creative and innovative visual effects studios.
Founded in 1989 in Munich, Scanline VFX is a global visual effects studio, established as an industry leader with the development of its proprietary fluid effects software, Flowline, for which it received the Scientific and Technical Achievement of the Academy Award for software in 2008. Recent projects include Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Free Guy. The company is led by President and Senior Visual Effects Supervisor Stephan Trojansky and has offices in Munich, Stuttgart, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Montreal, Seoul and London.
As stated in the press release, “Netflix will invest in Scanline’s pipeline, infrastructure and workforce and continue to support the pioneering work that Scanline’s Eyeline Studios is doing in virtual production to push the boundaries of what is visibly possible. Completion of this transaction, expected in the first quarter of 2022, is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.”
