The 2019 Theme Report, reported by Motion Pictures Association shows record data for the entertainment market: over 100billion dollars for the first time ever.
The breaking record is reported by the annual Theme Report, signed by the CEO of Motion Pictures Assocation. For the first time in history, the global entertainment market broke the $100 billion wall, reaching $101 billions.
2019 was a record year for the global audiovisual industry, all sectors included. The global Box Office has climbed to 42,5billion dollars. The result is probably also due to the worldwide success of films such as The Lion King, Joker and Avengers: Endgame. Although ticket sales have decreased in the United States, 75% of the population has reportedly been to cinema theatres at least once during 2019.
The streaming sector has experienced the most exponential growth, incresing by 14% since to 2018. The number of subscribers has reached 863,9 millions globally, with a profit of 58,7 billion dollars. Nonetheless, it is essential to highlight that streaming platforms are not at all a threat to the attendance of youths in theatres, as suggested by popular belief. On the contrary, the attendance of American movie theatres is higher among kids between 12 and 17 years of age with an average of 4,9 tickets per person, followed by kinds between 18 and 24 (4,7 tickets per person).
Another sector which has become more significant is the mobile entertainment, growing by 8% and reaching 25,2billion dollars. The report shows that more than 85% of children and 55% of adults watch films or tv shows on a mobile device, either smartphone or tablet.
