Vivo Film, a movie company based in Rome funded by Gregorio Paonessa and Marta Donzelli, obtained a slate fund from Creative Europe (a program launched in 2014 that provides 1,46 billion to the cultural sector between 2014 and 2020) for 3 projects directed by three young female filmmakers: Laura Bispuri, Susanna Nicchiarelli and Michela Occhipinti.
Laura Bispuri, highly acclaimed during the 65th edition of Berlinale and winner of the Globo d’Oro in 2015 for her movie Vergine Giurata (Sworn Virgin) (a coproduction between Vivo film, Colorado Film, The Match Factory Productions, Rai cinema, Errafilm and RSI) is starting to work on her next movie. Vergine Giurata was presented at the New Cinema Network, the roman co-production market that has integrated in MIA since its first edition in 2015.
Susanna Nicchiarelli presented “Nico, 1988” (What’s Next Italy MIA | Cinema 2016), a movie about the last year of life of Christa Päffgen alias Nico, muse of Andy Warhol and The Velvet Underground. The movie was presented at MIA 2016 and is a coproduction between Vivo Film and the English production company Tiger Lily.
To conclude, Michela Occhipinti is now shooting Flesh Out, presented at MIA | Cinema 2016. The movie is about the women of Mauritania who gain weight in order to match local aesthetic canons to the extent that their life is put at risk.
