On the night of the Italian Oscars, the brightest star was Dogman, which won nine David di Donatello awards, including the most important one, that for the Best Film.
The ceremony of the 64th edition, aired on Rai 1 and conducted by Carlo Conti, began with an absolute novelty, the David of the viewer, the prize for the film that had more viewers in the theater. The award went to Gabriele Muccino’s film There is no place like home, with 1,428,000 tickets detached. Roberto Benigni awarded the visionary American director Tim Burton with the David for his career, while the Tarantino’s muse Uma Thurman was awarded the David Speciale. It was the latter who presented Alessandro Borghi with the statuette for Best Actor for On my skin: the last seven days of Stefano Cucchi, an award dedicated to the memory of Stefano Cucchi. The other two special Davids went to the horror master Dario Argento and to Francesca Lo Schiavo for the set design. Among the protagonists of the evening were Elena Sofia Ricci, who was awarded David as Best Actress for the film Loro, Edoardo Pesce, who won the award for Best Supporting Actor in the film Dogman, and Marina Confalone, who won the award for Best Supporting Actress in the film The vice of hope by Edoardo De Angelis, presented as a project at the Co-production Market and Pitching Forum of MIA 2017.
