“Hidden Away” (Volevo Nascondermi), the film directed by Giorgio Diritti and starring Elio Germano, triumphed at the 66th edition of the David di Donatello Awards 2021.
The film dedicated to painter Antonio Ligabue won 7 categories and was awarded Best Film and Best Director. Elio Germano wins the award for Best Protagonist Actor. Among women, Sophia Loren triumphed, winning the award for Best Protagonist Actres in “Life ahead of him“. “Tolo Tolo“, by Checco Zalone, wins the David of the Spectator and beats Laura Pausini for Best Original Song, also winning the award for the soundtrack “Immigrato“. In the Producers category, Miss Marx won. Marta Donzelli and Gregorio Ponessa were awarded for Vivo Film with Rai Cinema, Joseph Rouschop and Valérie Bournonville for Tarantula Belgique.
Among the winning titles also stands out “I predatori”, presented at MIA 2019 during What’s Next Italy 2019. The film was awarded in the Best Beginning Director category, directed by Pietro Castellitto. Matilda De Angelis also won her first David, in the Best Supporting Actress category, for the film “L’incredibile storia dell’Isola delle Rose”.
During the ceremony, two special Davids were awarded: to Monica Bellucci, one of the best-known and most appreciated actresses in the world, and Diego Abatantuono, one of the most versatile characters in Italian entertainment. Sandra Milo will receive the David to Carrer 2021.
The evening dedicated to Italian cinema is organized by the Fondazione Accademia del Cinema Italiano and Rai with the contribution of MiC Ministero della Cultura – Direzione Generale Cinema e Audiovisivo, in agreement with AGIS and ANICA and with the participation of SIAE and Nuovo IMAIE.
