Dogman has been chosen to represent Italy at the next Oscars. Matteo Garrone‘s film outclasses other Italian successes.
The Selection Committee for the Italian film to be nominated for an Oscar has appointed Matteo Garrone‘s Dogman to represent Italian cinema for Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st edition of the Academy Awards.
The film is inspired by a crime story of the 80s in Rome that involved a dog groomer and a former boxer. The film was so successful at the Cannes Film Festival that actor Marcello Fonte was awarded the Palme d’Or for his leading role.
Dogman has been selected among several other successful films of this season, such as Sulla mia pelle by Alessio Cremonini with Alessandro Borghi and The Place by Paolo Genovese with Valerio Mastandrea.
Matteo Garrone‘s film was chosen by the Selection Committee, set up by ANICA last June, on behalf of the “Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences”, gathered before a notary public and composed of Nicola BORRELLI, Marta DONZELLI, Gian Luca FARINELLI, Antonio MEDICI, Silvio SOLDINI, Maria Carolina TERZI, Maria Sole TOGNAZZI, Stefania ULIVI, Enrico VANZINA.
The nominations will be held in Los Angeles on January 22, 2019, while the awards will be held on February 24, 2019.
