EU rejects the controversial copyright reform that generated great debate among Internet giants and content creators.
The proposed draft law, known as the Copyright Directive, was aimed at rising responsibility from websites on copyright infringements and stablish a tax for linking to news.
While many high-profile music stars, claiming that websites exploited their content, backed the reform, many other opposed to it, saying the new rule would suppress internet freedom.
Although the regulation sought to keep EU’s copyright laws in line with the digital era, it sparked a fierce protest from websites which led to its final rejection by a margin of 318-278 in the European Parliament on Thursday.
