“Gatta Cenerentola” by Alessandro Rak, Ivan Cappiello, Marino Guarnieri and Dario Sansone lands in the Orizzonti section of the 74th Venice Film Festival. The excellence of the Italian animation conquers the lagoon with a standing ovation.
The story of “Gatta Cenerentola” is a noir and post-modern version of the world-famous fairy tale made even more original, self-deprecating and creative by its creators. The new fairy tale, as Italian as international, is set in a Neapolitan present in which it is the real witness of the town.
The wild, silent and lone protagonist is Mia and is a credible and universal character. The girl, who is almost 18, grew up in the port of the Neapolitan gulf, on the Megaride, the wreckage of a giant craft once a symbol of hope and renaissance, now a brothel inhabited by the six step-sisters of this Cinderella, who is as stray as a cat and is looking for justice.
The directors, producers Luciano Stella and Maria Carolina Terzi and the dubbers of the protagonists were present at the screening: Alessandro Gassmann, the voice of Primo Gemito, Massimiliano Gallo, who gives voice to merciless member of the Camorra Salvatore Lo Giusto, and Maria Pia Calzone plays Angelica Carannante, Salvatore’s mistress.
Produced by Mad Factory (with a budget of only 1.2 million euros), the movie will be in theatres from 14 September.
