Expectations are high but details remain scarce about the announced spin-offs that will follow the final season of Game of Thrones. HBO announced a while ago that they are planning four or five separate spin-offs of the original series, based on the fantasy universe created by George R.R. Martin. On Tuesday at the INTV conference in Israel the HBO senior VP of drama, Francesca Orsi, said that the budget for Game of Thrones spin-offs will be high, “$50 million (per season) would never fly for what we are trying to do. We are going big”.
Four important screenwriters will work with George Martin to create the new episodes: Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass), Brian Helgeland (Legend) and Carly Wray (The Leftovers).
The HBO programming president, Casey Bloys, said that the spin-offs are not going on air earlier than one year from the final season of GoT.
Meanwhile, the staff has started to film the eighth and final season of Games of Thrones: it will be released in 2019 and it will not disappoint, as Orsi promised.
