Netflix has announced a three-year investment plan of 200 million euros for production developed in Italy. Kelly Luegenbiehl, Vice President International Originals for Europe, Middle East and Africa highlighted that Italian creativity is highly admired worldwide for the quality of its stories and its production capabilities.
Netflix bets on Italy, continuing a strategy already launched in recent times. In fact, there are many contents produced on the Italian territory, such as On My Skin: The Last Seven Days of Stefano Cucchi, Suburra: Blood on Rome, Baby. Instead, the adaptation of Three Steps Over the Heaven, Luna Nera (Black Moon), Fedeltà (Loyalty) has been announced.
Meanwhile, Undersecretary of Mibac Lucia Borgonzoni announced a change in the obligations of investment and programming: “We are redefining with the Mise [Italian Ministry of Economic Development] the last details and we are sure that even the platforms will invest in our country and in our creativity much more than previously requested and not by obligation, but because they recognize the immense value.
Giancarlo Leone, president of the Apa (Association of Audiovisual Producers), underlined: “the strengthened relations between national independent producers and Netflix will contribute to an increasingly significant presence of the service in Italy and to an internationally successful showcase for Italian productions in the world”.
