Nico, 1988 by Susanna Nicchiarelli was selected as the opening film of the Orizzonti section of the 74thVenice Film Festival. The movie, produced by Vivo film, Tarantula, Rai Cinema, with the contribution of MiBACT and the support of the Lazio Region, was present in the What’s Next Italy section of MIA Market 2016.
Susanna Nicchiarelli, director of Cosmonaut and Discovery at Dawn, directs a road movie dedicated to the last years of Christa Päffgen’s life, alias Nico, Andy Warhol’s muse and Velvet Underground’s voice. Nico is played by Trine Dyrholm, who won the Silver Bear for Best Actress in Berlin in 2016. About the film, the director stated: “people usually talk about Nico only in relation to the Velvet Underground period and to the men she had an affair with, such as Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan and Iggy Pop, not to mention Warhol. But Nico was a great musician and I wanted to tell her life in reverse: the loss of consensus and the change in her image represented the conquest of her freedom”.
The world premiere will be screened on August 30 in the Lido’s Sala Darsena.
