Gianfranco Rosi‘s movie Notturno will represent Italy in the selection for the category of “International Feature Film Award” at the 93rd Academy Awards, scheduled in Los Angeles on April 25th, 2021.
The selection commission, set up at ANICA at the request of the Academy, met today – November 24, 2020 – in front of a notary, composed of Nicola Borrelli, Simone Gattoni, Paolo Genovese, Carlo Poggioli, Cristina Priarone, Gloria Satta and Baba Richerme, to vote for the designated title on a list of twenty-five titles.
The official announcement of the five nominated films is scheduled for March 15, but a first shortlist of ten titles will be announced on February 9, 2021.
Notturno, presented during the last edition of the Venice International Film Festival and subsequently in various international reviews, is a co-production between Italy, France and Germany which included, among others, 21 Unofilm, Les Films d’Ici and No Nation Films, in collaboration with Rai Cinema, Istituto Luce-Cinecittà and Arte France Cinéma and with the support of The Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism.
