The Report 2018 has been officially presented by the Ente dello Spettacolo Foundation, an event hosted also by Francesco Rutelli, President of ANICA (National Association of Cinema and Audiovisual Industries).
The Ente dello Spettacolo Foundation Report 2018 “Spettatori, Scenari e Strumenti” (Audience, scenes, and tools) has revealed diverse data and numbers of the audiovisual industry. Compared to past editions, new focuses have been introduced on specific modifications in the Italian and international audiovisual system in recent years. The Report 2018 illustrates consumption trends, development of the regulations, and the support devoted to this sector. Among the data collected on film consumption, an interesting result shows that Millennials are great consumers of audiovisual material. The data – obtained from a sample of 2045 people aged between 20 and 44 – illustrates that Millennials recognize the value of movie theatres and would like to go more often to the cinema. They are large film consumers, as 49.3% of the surveyed people reported to watch a film more than once a week, but their visit to movie theatres is more occasional, registered in once a month for 81.4% of the respondents. The price of the ticket plays a key role in their choice. Two out of three respondents opt for larger cinema rooms, while a third of the interviewees prefer smaller rooms.
The presentation of this reseach has was also attended by: Mons. Nunzio Galantino (Italian Episcopal Conference General Secretary), Mons. Davide Milani (President of the Ente dello Spettacolo Foundation), Nicola Borrelli (General Director for Cinema, MiBACT) and Francesco Rutelli (President of ANICA). The president of ANICA, Francesco Rutelli, focused in particular on the importance of the Italian audiovisual industry on the international scene, also emphasizing the crucial quality of the script: “A quality cinema must speak to a large audience, a large audience that shall be educated, informed, guided”.
