For the next long-term EU budget 2021-2027, the European Commission is planning to increment the funding for Creative Europe to €1.85 billion.
The proposal for the new programme of Creative Europe, the European Commission programme supporting European cultural, creative and audiovisual sectors, is part of the “Investing in people” chapter of the EU’s long-term budget proposal, aiming to promote the culture that contributes to the creation of a European identity. The Commission’s new proposal, which plans to raise its funding to €1.85 billion, will focus on three areas: Media (film and other audiovisual industries), Culture and Cross-sectoral action. €1.081 billion will be destined to Media to stimulate competitiveness in the audiovisual sector in Europe, while the culture area will receive €609 million from the new budget, and €160 million will be allocated to Cross-sectoral action to fund SMEs and other organizations working in the cultural and creative sectors.
The current Creative Europe programme 2014-2020 is a unique platform to give coordinated support to cultural and creative sectors across the continent, and the new proposed programme builds on the experiences accumulated and on the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage, which aims to raise awareness of Europe’s shared yet diverse heritage.
