Univideo publishes its annual report: Home Entertainment is worth 176.8 million euros, 60% of which is made up by the digital sector.
Univideo constantly collects, compiles and processes data, information and in-depth analyses on the economic trend of the audiovisual market, making use of the collaboration of well-known Research Institutes. In particular, it produces, in collaboration with GfK, the Annual Univideo Report on the state of audiovisual publishing in Italy.
The physical video market, in decline, in 2021 generates a turnover of 69.8 million euros in traditional channels and newsstands. Sales in traditional channels represent the most important business area with a turnover in 2021 of 56.8 million euros, although with a 27.2% drop compared to 2020.
DVD is preferred to Blu-ray, for which we find a turnover of 38 million euros against 19 million for Blu-ray. DVD remains the main format, generating 66.3% of the total value.
Restrictions due to the COVID-19 emergency continue to slow down the recovery of the market. however, in the last four months of the year, DVD and Blu-ray movie releases contributed to improving sales trends.
The lockdown first and then the subsequent periodic restrictions to which we have been subject over the last 2 years, have favored the strong growth of digital content users (+54% compared to 2021 and +12% compared to 2020). The digital sector is worth 60.5% of the total, amounting to 107 million euros.
