The Valle D’Aosta Film Commission from 2011 until 2017 sustained film and television productions for € 1.177.000, which have brought returns to the region for € 8.700.000, other than promotion for the territory.
Shooting has just ended for the third season of “Rocco Schiavone”, the TV series inspired by Antonio Manzini’s novels and produced by Cross Productions and Rai Fiction. Production has spent € 800.000 on the territory during the shooting of the well-known series starring Marco Giallini. Data comes from the Valle D’Aosta Film Commission, which has sustained the production with a contribution of € 180.000. “It’s a proportion which is very favourable with respect to the amount we have provided” stated Alessandra Miletto, executive director of the Film Commission.
According to European data, returns of a film or TV production multiply investments by 2.5 up until 5.5 times. From 2011 to 2017, the Valle d’Aosta Film Commission has funded productions for € 1.177.000, which have brought € 8.700.000 in returns. Other than direct returns, given by the troupe’s presence on the territory, TV productions have also indirect returns which cannot be directly reported. The latter increase the multiplier effect by many times, with relevant economic and tourist growth of the territory. Alessandra Miletto has highlighted “the extraordinary promo that the Rocco Schiavone series is bringing to the region. Valle D’Aosta locations have now become iconic, including the Roman Theatre which hosts the most intense scenes of the series.”
The Gressoney’s Savoy Castle, which was the set for Alessandro Genovesi’ s movie “The Worst Christmas of My Life” (2012), is now among the most requested film locations. Moreover, last year, “L’Amore, il Sole e le altre Stelle”, starring Vanessa Incontrada, has received € 80.000 by the Film Commission and it has spent € 360.000 on the territory.
In 2019, the Valle d’Aosta Film Commission has destined € 290.000 to the Film Fund, a fund for audiovisual productions. Among the productions which will be set in the region this year, there will be Manetti Brothers’ “Diabolik” and two documentaries. The first one, “Big North” is directed by Paolo Cognetti, while “Fronte Interno” is directed by Domenico Quirico and produced by Luca Guadagnino.
